Sarah's Oil

Set in the Oklahoma Indian Territory during the early 1900s, this drama follows Sarah Rector, a young Black girl who suspects that oil lies beneath her dry plot of land. After her intuition is proven correct, she must navigate the threats of unscrupulous speculators. With the support of her family, friends, and independent oil seekers from Texas, Sarah fights to keep ownership of her property, eventually becoming one of the first Black female millionaires in the United States at age eleven.

The film was directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, who also co-wrote the screenplay. It is the fifth feature in his directorial timeline, following Infidel. The cast is led by Naya Desir-Johnson in the title role, alongside Sonequa Martin-Green, Zachary Levi, Garret Dillahunt, Bridget Regan, and Kenric Green.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Kingdom Story Company, and Wonder Project, the movie had a budget of 18 million USD and earned 12 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is generally positive, with a rating of 7.9 on TMDB from 145 votes and 6.8 on IMDb from 1,600 votes. These viewer scores are slightly higher than the 6.4 rating provided by film critics based on 13 reviews.
