Twisted is a crime thriller about Jessica Shepard, a San Francisco police officer newly promoted to the homicide division. Her first major case involves a string of murders, and she soon realizes that each victim was a man she had been romantically involved with. The investigation tightens around her as evidence points in her direction, while gaps in her memory leave her unsure of what she did on the nights of the killings. Working alongside her partner, Mike Delmarco, and under the supervision of her superior, John Mills, she tries to determine who is responsible while her own colleagues grow suspicious of her.
Philip Kaufman directed the film, which came after Quills in his filmography, from a screenplay by Sarah Thorp. Ashley Judd plays Shepard, with Samuel L. Jackson as Mills and Andy García as Delmarco; David Strathairn, Russell Wong and Mark Pellegrino are also among the credited cast.
Released in 2004, the film had a budget of 50 million USD and took in about 41 million USD worldwide, less than its production cost. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 626 votes, indicating a muted response from viewers.
