A Family

A Family is a drama that explores the emotional impact of a parental divorce on two siblings, Nina and Eli. The story follows a three-week period told twice from different points of view, showing how the same events are perceived differently by each child. While Nina wants to distance herself from her family, Eli hopes for a return to how things were before. As their parents fight for custody, the children must communicate their fears and desires to a judge.

The film was directed by Mees Peijnenburg, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Bastiaan Kroeger. The production was a collaboration between companies in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Netherlands Antilles, including VPRO, Pupkin, The Reunion, and Juliet. The cast features Celeste Holsheimer as Nina and Finn Vogels as Eli, with Carice van Houten and Pieter Embrechts playing the parents, Maria and Jacob. Livia Lamers and Aberi Harushaimana also appear in the 89-minute production.
