Frida Kahlo’s niece was so impressed with the film that she gifted Salma Hayek with the artist’s necklace.
Madonna, a fan of Frida Kahlo’s work, was considered for the lead role but was turned down.
Before filming this movie, Salma Hayek accused producer Harvey Weinstein of violating the terms of her contract when he threatened to replace her with another actress, despite the fact that Hayek had brought the project to his attention with the condition that she would be cast in the lead role.
During a test screening of the film, producer Harvey Weinstein became so enraged that composer Elliot Goldenthal had to step between Weinstein and director Julie Taymor to prevent the producer from physically harming her.
