The American Dream
Short description
The American Dream is a comedy based on a true story about two men from humble beginnings who strive to enter the world of professional basketball. Jérémy, a video store employee, and Bouna, an airport cleaner, share a passion for the sport despite lacking money, industry connections, and fluency in English. Relying on their friendship and intuition, they attempt to navigate the high-stakes environment of the NBA to discover new talent and secure million-dollar contracts.
The film was written and directed by Anthony Marciano, marking the third feature in his directorial career following The Brats and Play. The lead roles are played by Raphaël Quenard and Jean-Pascal Zadi, with a supporting cast that includes David Clark, Josh Casaubon, Etienne Guillou-Kervern, and Gabriel Caballero. Produced by companies including Gaumont and France 2 Cinéma, the movie is a joint production between France and Canada.
Since its February 2026 release, the film has earned 6 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception has been positive, as reflected by a 7.6 rating on IMDb from 733 votes and a 7.4 rating on TMDB from 143 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- Due to logistics and financial considerations, all outdoor scenes set in the USA were filmed in Canada. NBA representatives were very helpful in making the film as authentic as possible.
- Before filming began, lead actors Raphaël Kenar and Jean-Pascal Zadi played basketball intensively for three months to ensure the basketball scenes in the movie looked more convincing and authentic.
