What's left behind the scenes

  • This is Morgan Freeman's first animated film.
  • The film character Benny (the astronaut) is a boy from the 1980s. His figure looks as if it has been played with by several generations of children. This is noticeable in the worn logo and broken helmet. Moreover, the crack in the helmet is in the place where real Lego figures typically broke.
  • Lord Business is the president of Octan, a fictional gas station that first appeared in 1992 and has since been repeatedly featured in various Lego sets.
  • The creators intentionally tried to film in the style of stop-motion, and also to make the special effects not look too obvious. All this was done to make everything on screen look like it was made with real Lego.
  • The staff of the wizard Vitruvius is actually a lollipop stick.
  • Emmet drives a modified small car 3177 from the Lego City 2010 line. It differs only in its curved front bumper and mirrors. This model was eventually released in a promotional set called "Emmet's Car" or "Fly Car".
  • Vitruvius was the name of a Roman architect who lived in the 1st century BC.
  • The numbers that can be seen on the bricks are the official Lego element identifiers (Lego Element ID).
  • Aristophanes' comedy "The Birds" tells of a bird city between heaven and earth, where everything is perfect. The film features a similar city, the birthplace of Unikitty, where there are no rules or restrictions.
  • Lord Business's special cape is actually shaped like a giant tie.
  • This is the second time Will Forte has voiced Abraham Lincoln. The first time was in the series "Clone High" (2002–2003).
  • The Wilhelm scream can be heard during the motorcycle chase scene when Lucy throws off the biker.
  • Real Lego sets were used during filming, in particular director Christopher Miller's personal "Space Village" set.
  • The music Vitruvius plays on the piano when Lucy and Emmett enter the saloon is a ragtime version of the song "Everything Is Awesome," which is the film's main musical theme.
  • In 2012, the following cast was considered: Emmet - Robert Downey Jr., Wyldstyle - Emma Stone, Vitruvius - Nicolas Cage, Batman - Christopher Lee, Benny - Sacha Baron Cohen, Metal Beard - Stephen Root.
  • When Wyldstyle rescues Emmet, she extends her hand to him and says, "Come with me if you want to live." This is a reference to the Terminator film series.
  • In Emmet's apartment, altered posters for the film "21 Jump Street" (2012) are hanging with the captions "Teen Copz: The Movie" and "Macho and the Nerd."
  • One great master is named El Macho Wrestler. This is the name of the main antagonist in the film "Despicable Me 2" (2013).
  • In the bar in Old West, you can spot the main bandit from the film "The Lone Ranger" (2013).
  • Emmet is the only right-handed builder; the rest are left-handed.
  • When Emmet jumps into the chasm near Lord Business’s tower and then finds himself in the real world, he actually passes through a pipe labeled "Magic Portal." This is a nod to The Magic Portal, the very first Lego stop-motion animated film.
  • When Wonder Woman is handcuffed, like all the Master Builders, she is the least pleased about it. According to early "Wonder Woman" comics, if a man puts handcuffs on her or ties her up, she loses all her power.
  • Batman’s line about Emmet being the hero Lucy deserves is a reference to Commissioner Gordon’s final speech in the film "The Dark Knight" (2008).
  • When entering the "doghouse," a Green Ninja peeked out from around corners four times on the left.
