Short description
Rocky Balboa is the world heavyweight champion, comfortable in his family life until a new threat emerges from the Soviet Union. Ivan Drago, a towering amateur champion backed by the Soviet state, arrives in the United States for an exhibition bout. Rocky has retired from the ring and declines, so his friend and former rival Apollo Creed steps in to face the Soviet fighter. The exhibition turns catastrophic when Drago's power proves lethal, leaving Rocky to seek a measure of justice. He agrees to fight Drago in Moscow, and travels to Russia to train in harsh conditions for a bout that will be broadcast around the world.
Sylvester Stallone directed, wrote and stars in the film, the fourth entry in the Rocky series and the third he directed himself, following Rocky II and Rocky III. Dolph Lundgren plays Drago, with Carl Weathers returning as Apollo Creed, Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Paulie and Brigitte Nielsen as Ludmilla Drago. Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff produced.
Released in November 1985, the film cost about 31 million dollars and took roughly 300 million dollars worldwide, a strong commercial result. On IMDb it holds 6.9 from about 244,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1 from far fewer votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 from 51 reviews sits below both audience scores, indicating that viewers have been more receptive to the film than reviewers.
