Short description
Rachel is a food writer at a New York magazine who meets Washington columnist Mark at a wedding and ends up falling in love with him despite her reservations about marriage. They buy a house, have a daughter, and Rachel thinks they are living happily ever after until she discovers that Mark is having an affair while she is waddling around with a second pregnancy.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The plot is based on the story of Nora Ephron's (1941-2012) marriage to Carl Bernstein, as well as the birth of their two sons. Bernstein was unfaithful to Ephron with Margaret Jay, the wife of the British Ambassador to the US and the daughter of Prime Minister James Callaghan (1912-2005). In 1992, Jay became a Baroness, and between 1998 and 2001, she was the first woman in history to lead the House of Lords.
