Leroy Green is a young martial arts student in New York, devoted to the teachings of Bruce Lee and determined to reach the highest level of his discipline, known as the Glow. His search for a master who can guide him there is complicated by two men who want to test or destroy him: a self-proclaimed Harlem champion and a music promoter pursuing a singer named Laura Charles, with whom Leroy becomes involved.
The film was directed by Michael Schultz, released in 1985 as the fourth of the five features listed in his directing career. Louis Venosta wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Taimak as Leroy, Vanity as Laura, Julius Carry as the Shogun of Harlem, Christopher Murney as Eddie Arkadian, Faith Prince and Leo O'Brien, among 34 credited performers. It blends action, comedy, drama, adventure and music, and was produced by TriStar Pictures with Motown Productions.
Made for about 10 million dollars, it returned roughly 26 million worldwide, a solid multiple of its cost. It holds a 6.8 rating on IMDb from around 19,000 votes and a 6.6 on TMDB from over 300, indicating a modest but enduring following.
