What's left behind the scenes
- At one point, François Ozon was working on a film project consisting of three novellas. One of them was about a man who had become disillusioned with life and set no goals for himself. Benjamin Voisin was cast to play him. The project never materialized, but friends advised Ozon not to abandon the idea. Shortly thereafter, he reread Albert Camus's novel "The Stranger" (1942) and decided to adapt it for the screen, making the story of the character from the unrealized project—whom Voisin was meant to play—very timely. In Ozon's film, this actor played Meursault.
