Set in the remote Tsakhir Valley of Mongolia, this documentary follows a young man named Batbold. He faces a significant struggle to keep a herd of one thousand horses alive during a winter that is recorded as the harshest in history.
The film was directed by Kasimir Burgess, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ed Cavanough. This production followed Burgess's previous work, Lone Rider, which was released in 2007. The documentary is a joint production between Australia and Mongolia, supported by Screen Australia, the MIFF Premiere Fund, and Repeater Productions.
The cast features the subjects appearing as themselves, including Dondogsuren Batbold, Chadraa Dondogsuren, Tsogtgerel Tsagaan-Owgon, and Chadraa Barsbold. The final runtime of the film is 89 minutes.
