Set in 2001, this drama follows Franny, a sixteen-year-old German exchange student who arrives in a quiet town in New Mexico. Expecting a specific version of the American dream, she instead finds herself isolated in a desert community. Against the backdrop of the September 11 attacks, Franny navigates the difficulties of being an outsider and the oppressive heat of her surroundings. She eventually forms a deep connection with Elliot, a melancholic local teenager who shares her sense of sadness. Together, they struggle to make the most of their limited time before Franny is scheduled to return home in June.
The film was written and directed by Katharina Rivilis.
