Fletch Lives

Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher, the investigative reporter who adopts disguises to get his stories, inherits a run-down plantation in Louisiana from his aunt. He arrives expecting something grander than the crumbling property he finds. Before long he is tangled up in a killing in the small town, becomes a suspect, and sets out to identify the real culprit and clear himself, slipping into his usual assortment of assumed identities along the way.

Chevy Chase returns as Fletch, the role he first played earlier in the decade. The cast around him includes Hal Holbrook, Julianne Phillips, R. Lee Ermey, Richard Libertini and Randall "Tex" Cobb. Michael Ritchie directed from a screenplay by Leon Capetanos; the film was produced by Alan Greisman and Peter Douglas. It is the twelfth of the fifteen features Ritchie directed, following The Couch Trip and preceding Diggstown.

Made for about 8 million dollars, the film took in roughly 35 million worldwide, a solid return on its budget. On IMDb it holds a 6.1 rating from around 24,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 from 349 votes. A critics' score of 4.7 from 32 reviews is noticeably lower than those audience figures.
