Esta Isla follows Bebo, a teenager living with his brother in public housing in a coastal Puerto Rican town. Though they make a living through fishing, financial desperation leads them into illegal activities. After a violent incident during one of these jobs, Bebo flees into the mountains with Lola, a wealthy young woman seeking escape from her own life. While hiding in isolated highlands and encountering a disappearing way of life, the pair is hunted by hired killers. Bebo must then determine if he can find redemption or if the ocean is their only remaining sanctuary.
The film is a collaborative effort between directors Lorraine Jones and Cristian Carretero, who also served as producers and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Kisha Tikina Burgos. The production was handled by Experimento Lúdico in Puerto Rico. The cast features Zion Ortiz as Bebo, Fabiola Brown as Lola, and Xavier Morales as Charlie, with additional roles played by Teófilo Torres, Audicio Robles, and Georgina Borri.
The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it earned a Special Jury Mention and awards for Best New Narrative Director and Best Cinematography. In 2026, it also received the John Cassavetes Award. This action-drama thriller has a runtime of 114 minutes.
