Regina Schilling wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Zero One Film and Navigator Film in Germany and Austria. Sandra Hüller portrays Bachmann, appearing alongside archival footage of the author herself and other figures including Günter Grass, Hans Werner Henze, and Margot Fonteyn.
