What's left behind the scenes
- The film significantly exceeded its budget and caused a serious financial crisis that almost bankrupted Columbia Pictures. The situation was saved by the Cinerenta fund of German dentists, which agreed to help co-finance other films from the studio.
- Following disastrous previews, Columbia Pictures significantly cut the film. Director Mark Rydell claimed that many of the jokes in the film suffered as a result.
