Red Sands

A U.S. Army unit is sent into Afghanistan to secure a strategic road running past an abandoned stone house. While carrying out the mission, the soldiers come across an ancient statue hidden in a ravine. They use the relic for target practice and destroy it, unwittingly releasing a vengeful supernatural force that turns on them.

Red Sands is a 2009 action horror war film directed by Alex Turner, following his 2005 debut Dead Birds as the second feature he has directed. Simon Barrett wrote the screenplay, and David Hillary, Ash R. Shah and Turner produced. The cast includes Shane West, Leonard Roberts, Aldis Hodge, Callum Blue, Brendan Miller and Theo Rossi.

Made in the United States by Stage 6 Films, Silver Nitrate, Deviant Films and Tricky Pictures, the film runs 89 minutes and was released in February 2009. It has drawn modest audience scores: on IMDb it sits at 4.3 out of 10 from roughly 3,800 votes, and on TMDB it holds 4.3 out of 10 from about 108 votes. The small TMDB sample size makes that figure less stable than the IMDb one, but both point to a similar reception among viewers.
