After his wife Liza dies by suicide without explanation, web designer Wilson Joel is left unable to make sense of what happened. He carries her unopened farewell letter with him but cannot bring himself to read it, and he keeps his distance from his mother-in-law, who wants to find the note and learn the reasons behind her daughter's death. Instead of facing any of it, Wilson withdraws into solitary habits: remote-control aircraft and inhaling gasoline fumes. His evasions strain the people around him and push him toward a crisis he cannot keep avoiding.
Todd Louiso directed the film from a screenplay by Gordy Hoffman. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Wilson, heading a cast that includes Jack Kehler, Sarah Koskoff, Stephen Tobolowsky, Erika Alexander and Shannon Holt. It was released in late 2002 and runs 90 minutes, blending comedy and drama. Produced on a budget of about 1 million USD by Wild Bunch, Muse Productions, StudioCanal and Kinowelt Filmproduktion, it is a German, American and French co-production, and Louiso's first feature as director.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 123 votes, a modest score from a small number of viewers. On IMDb, audience response was likewise restrained.
