Singapore Sling is a private detective obsessed with finding Laura, a woman he has not seen in years and may no longer be alive. His search leads him, wounded and exhausted, to an isolated villa on a stormy night, where he witnesses two women burying a body in the garden. The pair, a mother and her daughter, take him captive inside their decadently furnished home and force him into their violent sexual games, which mix desire with murder. The film's original Greek title translates roughly as "The Man Who Loved a Corpse," pointing to the morbid bond at its centre.
Nikos Nikolaidis directed and wrote the screenplay, working with producers Marie-Louise Bartholomew and himself. The cast is small: Panos Thanassoulis plays the detective, Meredyth Herold the daughter, Michele Valley the mother and John E. Regan a lawyer. The film runs 112 minutes and mixes comedy, drama and horror.
Released in December 1990, the Greek production drew modest audiences. On IMDb it holds 6.4 from about 3,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from a much smaller pool of 82. The wide gap in vote numbers suggests a cult following rather than broad viewership, with those who seek it out rating it a little above average, and the two sites broadly agreeing.
