633 Squadron

During the Second World War, a Norwegian resistance leader passes word of a German rocket fuel installation hidden deep inside a fjord, protected by anti-aircraft defences and an overhanging cliff. A Royal Air Force squadron is given the task of destroying it, flying de Havilland Mosquito aircraft. The location makes a conventional bombing run close to impossible, and the crews must attempt a method that offers little margin for error.

Walter Grauman directed the film, which came out in 1964. It was his first feature, followed chronologically by Crowhaven Farm in 1970 and Manhunter in 1974. Howard Koch and James Clavell wrote the screenplay, with Cecil F. Ford producing for The Mirisch Company. Cliff Robertson plays Wing Commander Roy Grant, George Chakiris appears as resistance officer Erik Bergman, and Maria Perschy, Harry Andrews, Donald Houston and Michael Goodliffe are among the twenty-one credited cast members.

The film runs 102 minutes and was released in the United Kingdom and the United States. Audiences have been moderate in their assessment: on IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 5,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 78 ratings. Those figures suggest a durable but limited following rather than wide acclaim.
