Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

In a distant future where vampires once ruled and now face extinction, a wealthy family hires a dhampir named D to recover their abducted daughter, Charlotte Elbourne. Her captor is Meier Link, a powerful vampire nobleman. D's orders are to bring Charlotte back alive, or to kill her if she has already been turned. What sets this pursuit apart from his usual work is the competition: a family of bounty hunters known as the Markus brothers has been hired for the same job, and the two parties race to reach Meier Link first. Their pursuit leads them toward something more dangerous than the vampire they are chasing.

The film is directed and written by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, whose earlier features include Wicked City, Demon City Shinjuku and Ninja Scroll. It followed a gap of several years since his previous directorial credit and came after work on Neo Tokyo and Cyber City Oedo 808. The voice cast includes Hideyuki Tanaka and Andrew Philpot as D, Koichi Yamadera and John Rafter Lee as Meier Link, and Pamela Adlon as Leila, with 39 performers credited in all. Produced in Japan by Madhouse and other companies, it runs 103 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a critics' rating of 6.4 from 33 reviews, noticeably lower than the 7.7 out of 10 it earns on TMDB from 851 votes.
