A young girl named Maja moves from Yugoslavia to Denmark with her parents to seek a better future. They leave Maja's older brothers behind with the intent of reuniting once they are established. The family faces significant challenges adjusting to a foreign culture and language. As an adult, Maja finds success as an artist, but she struggles with the emotional weight of her parents' sacrifices and the conflict between her current life and her past.
