You Will Be Free

Set in Afghanistan in 2002, the story begins when a fifteen-year-old girl is forced into a marriage with a much older man. To save her daughter, the mother arranges for her to marry a man in Montreal instead, but this escape comes with a condition. The agreement dictates that any future children from this marriage must eventually wed their cousins in Afghanistan. By 2020, Zarmina has integrated into Quebec society and resists the enforcement of this pact for her own fifteen-year-old daughter. This defiance leads to a series of tragic events.

This Canadian drama was directed by Bachir Bensaddek, following his previous film, The Hidden Woman. The screenplay was written by Marie Vien. The cast features Wazhma Bahar as Zarmina Latif, alongside Julie Le Breton, Firuz Ali Nazar, Saba Vahedyousefi, Saboor Sahak, and Paeman Arianfar. Produced by Caramel Films, the movie has a runtime of 89 minutes.
