Mobile Suit Gundam F91 is set in U.C. 0123, three decades after the events of Char's Counterattack. The Earth Federation has continued building space colonies to house a growing population, but the aristocratic Crossbone Vanguard, tied to the Ronah family, seizes the newly constructed Frontier Side and declares its independence as Cosmo Babylonia. When the attack reaches their home, engineering student Seabook Arno and his friends are caught in the fighting. To protect the people close to him, Seabook takes control of a prototype mobile suit, the Gundam F91, while his girlfriend Cecily Fairchild becomes entangled with the Ronah family.
The film was directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, who had already made several Gundam films, including Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack in 1988. It was followed in his filmography by the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam compilation trilogy in the mid-2000s. Koji Tsujitani voices Seabook, with Yumi Touma as Cecily Fairchild and Berah Ronah, and Masaki Maeda as Carozzo "Iron Mask" Ronah. It runs 115 minutes and was released in Japan on March 16, 1991.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.4 from around 1,200 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from 57 votes, reflecting a modest but steady level of interest among viewers rather than broad acclaim.
