The Net

Angela Bennett is a computer analyst who works from home and has little contact with the outside world beyond the phone and the internet. When a friend sends her a disk containing a program he wants her examined, she discovers it holds a key to protected government databases. The discovery makes her the target of a criminal group that uses the network as its weapon, and someone begins altering and deleting records of her existence from official systems, leaving her with a criminal history she never had. Hunted by a professional killer and by the police, she has to find a way to prove who she really is.

Irwin Winkler directed The Net, his third film as director after Guilty by Suspicion and Night and the City, from a screenplay by John Brancato and Michael Ferris. Sandra Bullock plays Angela, with Jeremy Northam as Jack Devlin, Dennis Miller as Alan Champion, Diane Baker as Mrs. Bennett, Wendy Gazelle and Ken Howard. The production, from Columbia Pictures, carried a budget of 22 million dollars and took about 111 million dollars worldwide.
