Short description
As Hiccup fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless’ discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup’s reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind.
What's left behind the scenes
- Justin Ruppel replaced T.J. Miller as the voice actor for Tuffnut Thorston because Miller found himself at the center of a series of scandals in mid-2018.
- While working on the film, DreamWorks Animation had to develop new software (for example, for the Night Fury).
- In one of the interviews, the film's director and screenwriter Dean DeBlois stated that Steven Spielberg participated in the work on the script. He suggested several ideas—for example, Toothless's love interest and the finale featuring the wedding of Hiccup and Astrid.
- Early script drafts stipulated that Drago Bludvist would once again be the film's main antagonist, and would redeem himself by the finale.
- In September 2012, 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation announced that the film would be released on June 17, 2016. In September 2014, the release date was moved to June 9, 2017. In January 2015, the release date was moved again to June 29, 2018. The film's release date was changed a total of 6 times.
