What's left behind the scenes

  • The film mentions a steamboat ticket to Bolivia, which is impossible since the film takes place in 1933, and Bolivia lost access to the Pacific Ocean back in 1883.
  • During the filming of the scene where his character is hit in the face with a metal chair, Burt Reynolds (1936-2018) broke his jaw. The actor was put on a liquid diet and lost almost 31 pounds by the end of filming.
  • When the film was being made and released, Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds, who played the main roles, were the most sought-after actors in the world. Eastwood agreed to star only on the condition that his fee would be higher than Reynolds' and his name would appear before Reynolds' in the credits.
