Cris Johnson has a rare ability: he can see a short distance into his own future, long enough to anticipate what happens next. Tired of being studied by doctors and government agencies, he lives quietly in Las Vegas under the name Frank Cadillac, earning money as a stage magician and picking up small winnings at the gaming tables. His cover begins to unravel when an FBI agent, Callie Ferris, learns what he can do. She wants his help finding a terrorist group that has smuggled a nuclear device into Los Angeles, and she is prepared to pursue him until he agrees. Cris, who has just met a woman named Liz, is reluctant to be drawn into the hunt.

Lee Tamahori directed the film, the seventh in a career that began with Once Were Warriors in 1994 and includes Mulholland Falls, The Edge, Along Came a Spider, Die Another Day and xXx: State of the Union, with The Devil's Double and The Convert arriving later. Nicolas Cage, who also produced, stars as Cris, opposite Julianne Moore as Ferris and Jessica Biel as Liz, with Thomas Kretschmann, Jim Beaver and Tory Kittles in supporting roles.

Released in April 2007, the film runs 96 minutes. It cost about 70 million dollars and returned roughly 76 million worldwide, a slim margin. Ratings sit in the middle range: 6.2/10 on IMDb from around 174,000 votes and 6.1/10 on TMDB from a much smaller poll, while critics were harsher at 4.7/10 across 128 reviews.
