Ten-year-old Maggie March struggles with reading and writing, which led to her being bullied at her previous school. When her mother moves her to a new town, Maggie fears that her academic difficulties and the ridicule from other students will continue. Her concerns are realized at her new school, but a meeting with the school psychologist provides a turning point. The psychologist acknowledges her past trauma and academic struggles while encouraging her to embrace her talent for drawing. He then conducts tests to identify the underlying cause of her learning challenges.
