Robin and the 7 Hoods

Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, Robin and the 7 Hoods follows Robbo, a bootlegger who controls the city's north side. When the racketeer Guy Gisborne seizes power after the murder of the mob boss Big Jim, Robbo refuses to fall in line and fights to hold on to his own territory. A gift of money from Big Jim's previously unknown daughter, Marian, leaves the city believing Robbo avenged her father, and his donations to an orphanage build him a reputation as a Robin Hood figure. Guy works to remove him, while Marian moves between men looking for an ally.

The film is a musical crime comedy directed by Gordon Douglas, the eighth of the sixteen features he directed in chronological order, coming between Up Periscope and Rio Conchos. David R. Schwartz wrote the screenplay, and Frank Sinatra produced and stars as Robbo, heading a cast that includes Dean Martin as John, Sammy Davis Jr. as Will, Bing Crosby as Allen A. Dale, Peter Falk as Guy Gisborne and Barbara Rush as Marian, among 121 credited performers.

Released in June 1964, the film runs 123 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 6,100 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.2 from a much smaller pool of 76 votes. A film critics' rating of 5.6 from ten reviews sits between the two audience scores, indicating a generally mixed response across all three measures.
