Short description

Elliott Nash is a television writer who has built a successful career out of inventing crimes for the small screen. His wife, Nell, is a Broadway actress, and their life in the suburbs appears settled until a man arrives with compromising photographs from her past and demands money for his silence. Rather than pay, Elliott puts his professional knowledge of criminal plots to use, killing the blackmailer and burying the body beneath the gazebo in the couple's backyard. The trouble is that he cannot leave it there; his anxiety about discovery drives him to dig the corpse up again and look for somewhere else to hide it, turning his carefully planned crime into an ongoing problem.

The film is a comedy crime story directed by George Marshall, the tenth of the thirteen features he directed in chronological order, following Pillars of the Sky and preceding The Mating Game. George Wells wrote the screenplay, and Lawrence Weingarten produced for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Avon Productions. Glenn Ford and Debbie Reynolds lead the cast as Elliott and Nell, with Carl Reiner, John McGiver, Mabel Albertson and Doro Merande among the twenty-eight credited performers. It runs one hundred minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.9 out of ten from thirty-nine votes.
