Earth vs. the Flying Saucers

Earth vs. the Flying Saucers follows Dr. Russell Marvin, a scientist running a project that sends rockets into the upper atmosphere to test equipment for future spaceflight. The launches keep failing, and reports of unidentified flying objects are rising around the world. Marvin and his wife Carol, whose father is a general at the base, learn that the cause is a spacecraft from a dying civilization beyond the galaxy, whose crews begin to attack Earth openly. The aliens deliver an ultimatum demanding that rocket testing stop, and when the government refuses, the invaders turn their weapons on the planet, leaving scientists scrambling for a way to defend it.

Fred F. Sears directed the film, his second in the chronological list of his work, between Chicago Syndicate and Miami Exposé. Charles H. Schneer produced from a screenplay by George Worthing Yates and Bernard Gordon. Hugh Marlowe stars as Marvin, with Joan Taylor as Carol, Donald Curtis as Maj. Huglin, and Morris Ankrum as Brig. Gen. John Hanley. The credited cast numbers 37.

Released by Columbia Pictures in the middle of the 1950s science-fiction boom, the film runs 83 minutes.
