Farewell, My Lovely

Set in 1940s Los Angeles, Farewell, My Lovely follows private detective Philip Marlowe as he takes on two cases that soon become entangled: a newly released ex-convict hires him to track down a former lounge singer he once loved, while a separate investigation involves a stolen jade necklace and a murder connected to a wealthy couple. As Marlowe pursues the missing woman, he is drawn into a network of secrets, danger and people determined to keep the past buried. The film is based on Raymond Chandler's 1940 novel.

Dick Richards directed and David Zelag Goodman wrote the screenplay, with Jerry Bruckheimer and George Pappas producing. Robert Mitchum plays Marlowe, heading a cast that includes Charlotte Rampling, John Ireland, Sylvia Miles, Anthony Zerbe and Harry Dean Stanton. The film sits at the start of Richards's directing credits as listed here, ahead of March or Die (1977). It runs 95 minutes.
