A self-made millionaire named Ken Jorgenson returns with his wife Helen and their daughter Molly to Pine Island, the coastal spot where he once worked as a lifeguard. There he meets Sylvia Hunter, a former girlfriend now married to a man she no longer loves, and the two soon pick up the romance they had abandoned years earlier. At the same time, Molly and Sylvia's teenage son Johnny are drawn to each other, and the feelings stirring between the two young people force both families to confront the choices the adults made long ago.
Delmer Daves directed, wrote the screenplay and produced the film, one of several titles he made in a run that included 3:10 to Yuma, Cowboy and The Hanging Tree before this release in 1959. Richard Egan and Dorothy McGuire play Ken and Sylvia, with Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue as Molly and Johnny; Arthur Kennedy and Beulah Bondi are also among the credited cast of thirty-five. Warner Bros. Pictures released the 130-minute drama.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.9 from around 4,300 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from a much smaller number of votes.
