What's left behind the scenes

  • During filming, the brakes failed on a nearby truck, and it began rolling, picking up speed, straight toward the set. Everyone scrambled to escape, except for the director, Leonid Maryagin, who lingered. Natalya Gundareva (who played Katya Nikanorova) turned around just in time to see that Maryagin was about to be run over; she rushed to the director and literally yanked him out from under the truck. When everyone began commemorating the incident that evening, Maryagin repeated the same phrase over and over: 'Natashka, I owe you my life.'
