Summer Lovers

Summer Lovers follows Michael Pappas and his girlfriend Cathy, a young American couple who spend the summer on the Greek island of Santorini before settling into their careers. They take to the relaxed atmosphere, the beaches and the uninhibited habits of the international visitors around them. Their relationship is tested when Michael becomes involved with Lina, a French archaeologist working on the island. Cathy confronts her rival, only to find herself drawn to Lina as well.

Randal Kleiser directed and wrote the film, producing it with Mike Moder for Filmways Pictures. It was his fourth feature, arriving between The Blue Lagoon and Flight of the Navigator in a run that began with Grease. Peter Gallagher plays Michael, Daryl Hannah plays Cathy and Valérie Quennessen plays Lina, with Barbara Rush, Carole Cook and Hans van Tongeren in supporting roles. The cast runs to 24 credited performers and the crew to 53.

The film was released in the United States in July 1982 and runs 98 minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 93 votes, which suggests a modest response from those who have logged it. It sits among the director's early 1980s work, between the fantasy romance The Blue Lagoon and the family adventure Flight of the Navigator.
