Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer continues the story of Marvel's first superhero team, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. As Reed and Sue prepare to marry, a mysterious figure arrives from space and leaves destruction in his wake. The team learns that this Silver Surfer is only a herald, and that a far greater threat is coming to Earth. Facing a danger beyond anything they have encountered, the four must also deal with the return of their old enemy Victor Von Doom, and their survival depends on an uneasy alliance.

The film was directed by Tim Story, the fourth of the fifteen features he has directed in chronological order, following Fantastic Four in 2005 and preceding Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain in 2011. Don Payne and Mark Frost wrote the screenplay, and Bernd Eichinger, Ralph Winter and Avi Arad produced. Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon reprise their roles, with Laurence Fishburne voicing the Silver Surfer, among a credited cast of fifty-three and a crew of sixty-seven.

Released in June 2007, the film cost about 130 million US dollars and took roughly 302 million US dollars worldwide, a return that outweighed its budget without matching the scale of the largest blockbusters. Audiences rate it 5.6 out of 10 on both IMDb, from around 298,000 votes, and TMDB, from 8,590 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 5.1 out of 10 from 173 reviews, placing professional assessment slightly below audience opinion.
