The Big Steal

Lieutenant Duke Halliday is accused of stealing an Army payroll he was supposed to guard, and Captain Vincent Blake is determined to bring him in. Halliday escapes and heads into Mexico chasing Jim Fiske, the man who actually took the money. On the way he meets Joan Graham, Fiske's former girlfriend, who has her own reasons to want to find him. The two travel together while Blake closes in behind them, and the chase moves through Mexican roads and towns.

Don Siegel directed the film, the second of the eighteen features attributed to him, coming after The Verdict and before Riot in Cell Block 11. Gerald Drayson Adams and Daniel Mainwaring wrote the screenplay, and Jack J. Gross produced for RKO Radio Pictures. Robert Mitchum plays Halliday and Jane Greer plays Joan, with William Bendix as Captain Blake, Patric Knowles as Fiske, Ramon Novarro as Inspector General Ortega and Don Alvarado as Lieutenant Ruiz.

The film runs 71 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9 from around 5,800 votes, while on TMDB the rating is 6.6 from roughly 108 votes, so the two audiences are broadly aligned.
