1001 Nights

This adventure comedy blends traditional folk tales with modern elements. Sheherazade is married to a ruler who executes his wives after one night. To avoid this fate, she uses a magic lamp to obtain help from a genie. This genie is a modern astronomer named Jimmy Genious who was sent from the twentieth century to the past as a punishment. Along with Aladin, Sheherazade encounters other figures such as Sinbad and the Caliph of Baghdad, while the genie provides them with contemporary technology like motorcycles and aircraft.

The film was directed by Philippe de Broca, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jérôme Tonnerre. This project followed six previous directorial works, including That Man from Rio and The Magnificent One. The cast features Catherine Zeta-Jones as Sheherazade, Gérard Jugnot as Jimmy Genious, and Thierry Lhermitte as the King, with supporting roles played by Stéphane Freiss, Vittorio Gassman, and Roger Carel.
