The original title of the film, translated from English, is "The Beekeeper."
The original title of the film, translated from English, is “The Grain Maker”.
Work on the project took over 10 years. Three film studios took it on, and the script was rewritten at least five times to align with the wishes of the film companies or the stars. Initially, the film was set to take place in New York, then New York was replaced by Los Angeles, then Prague, and finally by the city of Spokane, Washington. During the final script change, all mentions of Israel and Hasidism (a religious movement in Judaism) were removed, and the action was moved to a diamond trading center in an unspecified American city. This was insisted upon by one of the producers.
