Short description
Viva Las Vegas follows Lucky Jackson, a racing driver who comes to Las Vegas for the city's Grand Prix. He has his car but needs money for a new engine before he can compete. He manages to raise the cash, then loses it after becoming distracted by Rusty Martin, a pool manageress. His chances in the race and with Rusty are further complicated by Count Elmo Mancini, a rival driver and womanizer who pursues the same woman.
The film is a musical comedy directed by George Sidney, working from a screenplay by Sally Benson. It was released in 1964 and runs 85 minutes. Elvis Presley stars as Lucky, with Ann-Margret as Rusty, Cesare Danova as Mancini and William Demarest as Mr. Martin. Sidney also produced alongside Jack Cummings. Coming after Bye Bye Birdie in the director's filmography, it was made by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with Jack Cummings Productions on a budget of one million dollars, and it took five million dollars worldwide.
On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 10,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.1 out of 10 from 162 votes. A film critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 29 reviews places it slightly above both audience scores.
