Aloha

Brian Gilcrest is a military contractor whose career has fallen apart. He gets a second chance from Carson Welch, a wealthy businessman who sends him to Hawaii, the place where Brian once had his biggest professional success, to oversee the launch of a private satellite from Honolulu. Once there, he is paired with Captain Allison Ng, an exacting Air Force officer assigned to keep an eye on him. Their working relationship gradually turns into something more, even as Brian reconnects with Tracy Woodside, a former girlfriend he almost married years earlier, who now has a husband and children.

Cameron Crowe wrote and directed the film, and produced it with Scott Rudin. It sits between We Bought a Zoo and no later titles in Crowe's directing career, as the eighth film he directed, following Say Anything..., Singles, Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, Elizabethtown and We Bought a Zoo. Bradley Cooper plays Brian, with Emma Stone as Allison Ng, Rachel McAdams as Tracy, Bill Murray as Carson Welch, John Krasinski as Woody and Danny McBride as Colonel Lacy. The film runs 105 minutes.

Released in May 2015, Aloha cost about 37 million dollars to make and took in roughly 26 million dollars worldwide, a result that falls well short of its budget. Audiences are lukewarm on it: IMDb shows 5.4 out of 10 from around 78,000 votes, and TMDB shows 5.5 out of 10 from about 2,189 votes. Critics were harsher still, with a 4.4 out of 10 across 165 reviews, noticeably below the audience scores.
