During the Second World War in France, a group of American military prisoners is being transported to a military prison when a German attack kills their guards and leaves only a handful of survivors. Among them are Lieutenant Robert Yeager, who was disciplined for repeatedly disobeying orders, along with men convicted of murder, theft and desertion. They set out toward neutral Switzerland to escape both the war and military justice, but a case of mistaken identity draws them into the plans of the French Resistance, which takes them for American commandos. The fugitives accept a dangerous assignment to seize a secret German V-2 rocket warhead deep inside occupied territory.
Enzo G. Castellari directed this Italian production, which followed his 1976 western Keoma in a filmography that also includes Johnny Hamlet, The House by the Edge of the Lake and 1990: The Bronx Warriors. Bo Svenson plays Yeager, with Fred Williamson as Private Fred Canfield, Peter Hooten as Tony, Michael Pergolani as Nick and Jackie Basehart as Berle rounding out the group; Roberto Sbarigia produced, and the screenplay was written by Sandro Continenza, Sergio Grieco and Franco Marotta.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.5 from around 11,000 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 6.2 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 7.8 from six reviews places it noticeably higher with reviewers than with general viewers on those platforms.
