Bobby Johnson goes to prison for killing the head of a rival gang in South Central Los Angeles and spends ten years behind bars. There he meets Ali, a Muslim inmate whose influence leads him toward religion and a change of life. Once released, Bobby tries to stay out of his old gang and plans to move away from the neighborhood with his son Jimmie. He discovers that Jimmie has grown up in his absence and has joined the Deuces, the same crew Bobby once belonged to. Father and son come into conflict as Bobby tries to pull the boy out of the gang that became his family while he was locked up. The film is based on Donald Bakeer's novel about gang life in Los Angeles.

Stephen Milburn Anderson wrote and directed the film, his first feature, followed years later by Ca$h. Glenn Plummer plays Bobby, with Carl Lumbly as Ali, Byron Minns, Lexie Bigham, Vincent Craig Dupree and LaRita Shelby among a credited cast of 38. Made for about 4 million dollars, it returned roughly 1 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from around 7,400 votes, and on TMDB 6.7/10 from 106 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2/10 from nine reviews places it in similar territory to the audience scores.
