Alice, Sweet Alice

Alice, Sweet Alice is a 1976 American crime thriller set in a Catholic parish in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1961. Twelve-year-old Alice Spages lives with her divorced mother, Catherine, and her younger sister, Karen, who is preparing for her first communion and receives most of the family's attention. When Karen is killed in the church, suspicion falls on the withdrawn and troubled Alice. Several accounts point to a masked figure in a yellow raincoat, and the case widens beyond a single death as the family comes under scrutiny, including from Alice's estranged father, Dom.

The film was directed by Alfred Sole, who wrote the screenplay with Rosemary Ritvo, and produced by Richard K. Rosenberg under Harristown Funding. Linda Miller plays Catherine, with Paula E. Sheppard as Alice, Mildred Clinton as Mrs. Tredoni, Niles McMaster as Dom, Jane Lowry as Aunt Annie DeLorenze and Rudolph Willrich as Father Tom; 31 cast members are credited. It runs 108 minutes and was released on November 13, 1976, early in Sole's directing career.
