The Little Vampire

Nine-year-old Tony Thompson moves with his parents from the United States to a small Scottish village where his father has been sent to build a golf course and holiday complex for a local lord. Tony struggles to fit in at his new school, where he is mocked for the vivid dreams he keeps having about vampires and a vampire hunter. Then, one night, he meets Rudolph, a vampire boy his own age whose family has given up drinking human blood. The two become friends, and Tony uses his ability to move about in daylight to help Rudolph and his family search for a way to become human again. A stubborn vampire hunter, Rookery, stands in their way.

The film is based on the popular children's books by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg, who is credited alongside Larry Wilson and Karey Kirkpatrick on the screenplay. Uli Edel directed; it followed Purgatory in his filmography and came before Julius Caesar. Jonathan Lipnicki plays Tony, with Rollo Weeks as Rudolph, Richard E. Grant and Alice Krige as Rudolph's parents, Jim Carter as Rookery, and Anna Popplewell as Anna.

Made for 35 million USD, the film returned 28 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 12,000 votes, matching the critics' rating of 5.8 from 63 reviews, while on TMDB it has 6.9 from roughly 476 votes, so audiences there rate it more warmly than either critics or IMDb users do.
