Jay Wheeler, the black sheep of a wealthy family, is ordered to do community service as a cleaner in a psychiatric hospital after another reckless episode. There he meets Daisy, a patient who has spent most of her life in the care of Dr. Bertleman and has little experience of the world outside. When she follows him out of the hospital, Jay takes her along to his brother's wedding, where his family expects him to present a respectable partner. Daisy's open, simple manner wins over his parents even as she unsettles them, and the arrangement between two very different people gradually turns into something neither planned.
Barefoot is a 2014 American comedy-drama directed by Andrew Fleming, his seventh feature, arriving between Nancy Drew and Ideal Home. Stephen Zotnowski wrote the screenplay, Lisa Demetree and David Scharf produced, and the film runs 90 minutes. Evan Rachel Wood plays Daisy and Scott Speedman plays Jay, with J.K. Simmons as Dr. Bertleman, Treat Williams and Kate Burton as Jay's parents, and Andrea Moore among a credited cast of 46. Made for about 6 million dollars, it drew modest attention: on IMDb it holds 6.5 from around 29,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from roughly 711 votes. A critics' rating of 4.1 from 21 reviews places it well below the audience scores.
