Two friends with contrasting personalities join an American expedition to climb K2, the second highest mountain in the world. Funded by a wealthy man named Phillip Claiborne, the team faces numerous setbacks, including severe weather, avalanches, and the sudden illness of their leader. After other climbers disappear, the two protagonists attempt the summit themselves. They eventually reach the peak, but a sudden change in weather during their descent puts their lives in danger while the base camp prepares to evacuate the sick Claiborne.

Directed by Franc Roddam, this film followed his previous work, including Quadrophenia and War Party. It was a joint production between the United Kingdom, United States, and Japan, featuring a cast that included Michael Biehn and Matt Craven. Based on a play by Patrick Meyer, the movie blends elements of action, adventure, drama, and thriller.
