Eragon

Eragon is set in Alagaësia, a land of elves, dwarves, and other fantastical peoples that was once protected by the Dragon Riders, until one of their own, Galbatorix, turned on them and seized power. In this changed world, a farm boy named Eragon comes across a strange blue stone that hatches into a dragon, and his discovery draws him into a conflict far larger than his village. With guidance from an older mentor, Brom, he learns that he is the last of the Dragon Riders and that only he can stand against the king's rule. The film follows Eragon as he takes on that role and sets out across dangerous country with his dragon, pursued by the king's forces.

The movie adapts Christopher Paolini's novel and was directed by Stefen Fangmeier, with a screenplay by Peter Buchman and Jesse Wigutow and production by John Davis, Wyck Godfrey, and Kevin Halloran. It was released in December 2006 with a budget of 100 million dollars and earned around 250 million dollars worldwide. Ed Speleers plays Eragon, alongside Jeremy Irons as Brom, Sienna Guillory as Arya, Robert Carlyle as Durza, John Malkovich as King Galbatorix, and Garrett Hedlund as Murtagh.

Reception was modest: on IMDb the film sits at 5.1 out of 10 from about 134,000 votes, and on TMDB at 5.1 from some 3,500 votes. Critics were less enthusiastic still, giving it 4.2 out of 10 across 124 reviews, below what general audiences recorded.
