The Year of the Cannibals

In a damp, modern metropolis, a totalitarian government forbids the burial of rebels killed by the police, leaving their bodies in the streets to discourage further insurrection. A young woman named Antigone rejects this inhumane decree and attempts to bury the dead. Aided by a foreigner named Tiresias, she defies the laws of the repressive state and challenges the established order.

This 1969 Italian drama was directed by Liliana Cavani and co-written by her and Italo Moscati. It is the first of five films directed by Cavani, preceding works such as The Night Porter and The Order of Time. The film stars Britt Ekland in the title role, alongside Pierre Clémenti, Tomas Milian, and Delia Boccardo. Production was handled by San Marco and Doria.
